A VR union meeting will be held online on Thursday, September 5th, at 12:00 noon. On the agenda is the election of VR's representatives for the 46th ASÍ Congress, which will take place from October 16th to 18th.

Commerce Day is a major public holiday, meaning that there is no obligation to work but employees should still be paid their fixed and regular wages for the day. If an employee has agreed to work on a major public holiday they should be paid overtime wages in addition to their normal salaries.

Applications for Blær Apartments Now Open

Applications are now open for apartments through Blær Housing Association on My pages at vr.is. A total of 34 apartments will be allocated this time, and all VR members with a number on Blær's waiting list can apply by September 6, 2024.

Merger of VR subdvions in Southern Iceland

The VR South Iceland Division has commenced operations following the merger of two of the union's subdivisions, in Vestmannaeyjar and Southern Iceland. The merger was approved at the subdivisions‘ annual meetings in May, and the VR Board approved the working rules for the new subdivision at its meeting on June 12th.

In light of the recent mass layoffs this spring the VR Board wishes to emphasize the following: Losing a job is a serious matter for the individual and their family. Losing one's livelihood can lead to financial difficulties that are hard to reverse, as well as causing mental distress.

Increased holiday rights for members

In the last collective agreements, increased holiday rights were negotiated for VR members, which will take effect in the allowance year 2025. However, we remind union members that the accumulation of these vacation rights for the next vacation year is from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2025. We also point out that union members who have completed secondary school should submit confirmation to ensure increased vacation rights in accordance with these changes.

Labor Dispute of Leiðsögn Referred to State Mediator

This morning, 12 June 2024, the labor dispute between Leiðsögn – Tourist Guide Union, and the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (SA) / The Icelandic Travel Industry Association (SAF) was referred to the state mediator. The negotiating committee, consisting of representatives from Leiðsögn and VR, believes it is evident that the negotiations cannot progress further and that the assistance of the state mediator is needed.

VR and Leiðsögn to Merge

VR and Leiðsögn – Tourist Guide Union have signed an agreement to merge the two organizations, which will fully take effect in the spring of 2025, pending the approval of their respective general meetings.

LÍV Joins the ETF
