At the first meeting of the VR Board following the recent leadership elections, a vote was held for the positions of Deputy Chair and Secretary. At the Board meeting on April 2, Ólafur Reimar Gunnarsson was elected Deputy Chair and Kristjana Þorbjörg Jónsdóttir Secretary.

The election for the VR Seniors’ Council, which took place from 31 March until noon today, Thursday, 4 April, 2025, has now concluded. The following have been elected to the VR Seniors’ Council for the term 2025-2027: Steinar Viktorsson, Hafdís Erla Kristinsdóttir, and Erla Halldórsdóttir. Additionally, the following have been elected as alternate members: Halldór Þór Wium Kristinsson and Inga Þyri Kjartansdóttir.

Bookings for holiday houses that were not rented out this summer are now open on VR’s holiday website. All VR members can apply for available holiday houses, regardless of whether they have rented a house in the past three summers or not.

The Fishing Card is now available

Valid VR members in good standing can now purchase the Fishing Card for the summer of 2025. The Fishing Card provides almost unlimited access to several water areas across the country. A manual where you can find instructions and rules comes with each card. The price for the Fishing Card is ISK 6400, and there is only one card pr. valid VR member.

Voting started for the VR Seniors’ Council

The election of three representatives in the VR Seniors’ Council takes place from 12:00 noon Monday 31 March to 12:00 noon Thursday 3 April 2025. According to the council's rules of procedure 6 members sit on the council, the Board of VR appoints three, while members aged 65 and older elect three.

VR Chair Elected to UNI Europa Executive Committee

Halla Gunnarsdóttir, Chairperson of VR, was elected as the representative of the Commercial Federation of Iceland (LÍV) to the Executive Committee of UNI Europa—the European trade union federation for service and retail sector workers—at a conference held in Belfast from March 24 to 27. This marks the first time a representative from Iceland has held a seat on the committee.

At VR‘s Annual General Meeting, which was held 26 March, it was agreed that the contribution to the VR Contingency Fund will be a total of ISK 1.050 million for the year 2024.
