Allocation rules for holiday houses

Allocation of VR Holiday Houses in Winter

For the first time, VR holiday houses will be allocated for winter rentals in the 2025–2026 season during specific periods. The houses are rented out for one week at a time, starting on a Thursday. Outside these periods, it is possible to rent the houses for shorter stays without allocation.

The holiday homes will be allocated during the following periods:

  • School winter breaks: October 23–30, 2025, and February 19–26, 2026.
  • Christmas 2025
  • New Year's 2025–2026
  • Easter 2026
  • Ski season in Akureyri from January 1 to April 30, 2026 (holiday houses in Hálönd and Skipagata).

All full members can apply for holiday home allocation during these periods, regardless of whether they have rented a holiday home in previous winters or not.

Application Period

Applications for holiday houses during the above-mentioned periods will open on April 14 and close on April 30. The allocation process will take place on May 2, and members will have until May 12 to complete payment via "My Pages" on the VR website. The allocation system randomly selects members, who will receive an email notification once the process is completed.

General Applications

On May 19 at 10:00, applications for holiday houses throughout the entire winter period, from August 28, 2025, to May 28, 2026, will open. The "first come, first served" rule will apply. The minimum rental period will be two days, and weekends will be rented from Friday to Monday.

The allocation of VR holiday houses for the summer of 2025:

  • On My pages, members can apply for a total of three houses, ranking their choices first, second and third.
  • Maximum rental per member is one week during the summer.
  • A new system randomly selects from applications and members who are allocated a house will be sent an email.
  • If a holiday house is or becomes available after the allocation, the first come, first serve rule applies.

Important dates

  • The application period is from 15 January till 27 February.
  • It doesn't matter when members apply during the application period, everyone has the same chance of being drawn.
  • A random drawing on 28 February determines allocation of houses.
  • Those who are allocated a holiday house will be sent an email.
  • Members then have two weeks to complete the payment through My pages.
  • Once payments for the allocation have been completed, holiday houses that were not rented out will be reallocated on March 18.
  • The confirmation and payment deadline for this second allocation will be from March 18 to March 24.
  • The same rule will apply as before, members who have rented a holiday house at any time during the last three summers cannot apply for 2025 but can apply for available homes starting on April 2 when general bookings open.

Summer allocation will no longer be limited to one day in January, as has been the practice in recent years.
