Union Activities and Other Work Experience

My experience in union activities is limited, but through my work, I have gained valuable insight into the Icelandic labor market. I started working at Bónus at just 14 years old and became a store manager at 18. This experience has taught me the importance of good working conditions, organization, and responsibility. I have seen how decisions regarding wages and working conditions directly impact the daily lives of employees. As a manager, I have learned to listen to different perspectives and work towards solutions that benefit everyone.

This experience will serve me well on the VR Board, where I want to focus on improving the conditions of all members through realistic and targeted actions.

Key Focus Areas

My priorities revolve around ensuring that VR focuses on its core values and works systematically to improve the living standards of all members. The union must ensure that wage negotiations primarily result in higher wages, better working conditions, and increased job security for everyone. The focus should be on real improvements that benefit as many members as possible in their daily lives so that the union continues to be a strong voice for workers.

VR must be clear and powerful in its goals, with a strategy that ensures the union works in the best interests of all who rely on it. A strong trade union should unite its members, protect their rights, and ensure that their voices are heard. This is how we can bring more people into the fight, especially younger members, who need a stronger voice and greater influence within the union.
