Experience in Union Activities
Throughout the years, I have actively participated in committees advocating for the interests of my fellow students or colleagues.
In 2013-2014, I was a union representative for SFK. From 2014-2015, I was a member of the school council at Hólar University. In 2017, I served on the board of LÍS (National Union of Icelandic Students), and from 2019-2021, I was the chairman of the Student Council at the Icelandic Film School.
I am currently a board member of the Hveragerði Theatre Association, a position I have held since 2020. Additionally, I serve on the Parents’ Council at Óskalandi Preschool in Hveragerði.
Key Focus Areas
My main focus is to protect the interests and rights of union members. It is crucial that everyone is aware of their rights, and it is important that VR is visible to all. VR is already a highly visible union, with its Workplace Inspections, school presentations, and social media playing a significant role. However, there is always room for improvement, especially in increasing visibility for foreign members. Their rights must be introduced in the same way as they are for Icelandic-speaking members.
I find it essential to safeguard members' wages and working hours, as well as to strengthen VR’s holiday and fund systems. Union-managed funds are often crucial for members, especially those on low wages. I want to contribute to the development of these funds and to strengthening other matters that come before the VR board.
I believe it is important to regularly bring new individuals into the board—this is precisely why elections exist, and every vote matters. More eyes see better than one, and I believe I can bring a fresh perspective and innovations that can make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and remember to vote, dear member!
