Union Activities and Other Work Experience
At VR, I have been a union representative since 2017 and have also been a member of the Consultative Council in recent years. I have served as a delegate at several LÍV and ASÍ congresses. I first became a union representative at 19 years old with Efling for a short time before changing jobs. I am active in Kiwanis within my club and served as District Manager in the last working year.
At Olís, I have held various positions, including working in the warehouse and at the service desk. I have also worked in fast food restaurants, other warehouses, as a laborer, youth worker, and in other similar jobs over the years.
Key Focus Areas
I want to emphasize protecting our labor rights, which have been achieved over the years, and expanding them to all VR members. We are a large union with a broad wage scale, and we are strongest when we stand together as one.
This includes fighting for December and holiday payments to be tax-free, as well as ensuring that grants for health and psychological services are tax-free. Additionally, parents' rights regarding children's illnesses should extend until the child turns 18, as individuals under 18 are legally considered children.
As a father of two preschool children, I have become well acquainted with the parental leave system in recent years, and significant improvements are needed. I will fight for a strong union like VR to put pressure on the government to extend it. Furthermore, it must be recognized that families live under different circumstances, and the government should trust families to manage their parental leave in a way that best suits them.
