Union Activities and Other Work Experience
I worked at Sól for 10 years before joining the procurement department at Vífilfell in 2003. I later became Procurement Manager at Emmessís, Oddi, and Icelandair from 2007 to 2023. For the past two years, I have worked as Procurement Manager at Terra Environmental Services. I have extensive experience in procurement and inventory management, as well as supply chain management and strategic planning.
I am a very social person and have served as chair of employee associations, working to strengthen solidarity and improve the work environment. At my workplaces, I have organized a variety of events that foster team spirit and contribute to a positive workplace culture. I believe that good communication and unity are key to better working conditions and increased job satisfaction.
As a board member of VR, I want to use this experience to enhance union activities within VR and strengthen the sense of community among members.
Key Focus Areas
I have been a VR member for 35 years and have always benefited from the union’s work. Now, I want to give back and contribute to strengthening the union even further.
With decades of management experience, I have learned to listen, consider different perspectives, and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds. I want to use this experience to make a strong union even stronger.
VR needs to be more visible, more accessible, and better utilize technology to ensure that members have easy access to important information and resources.
Changes in the labor market and society as a whole are happening at a rapid pace, and VR must take the lead in preparing its members for new challenges. By increasing the availability of information and education, we can ensure that our members are ready for the digital transformation that both society and the labor market are undergoing. It is clear that technology is already impacting our jobs, and we need to adapt to the significant changes that lie ahead.
My focus is on increasing grants for continuing education and professional development so that members can be well-prepared for changes in their jobs and create opportunities alongside technological advancements. I will fight for greater education on new technologies related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and their impact on our members.
The labor market is evolving rapidly with the advent of new technologies and developments in the business world. Unions like VR must respond to these changes by ensuring that members receive adequate rights and support, regardless of how or where they work.
For example, remote work has increased significantly in recent years and will continue to develop. VR must ensure that members working remotely enjoy the same rights as those working in traditional workplaces.
I want to see a union that is more visible, more accessible, and uses technology to deliver essential information effectively. I have decades of experience in considering different viewpoints and working with people—and I want to use that experience for the benefit of our union.
