Union Activities and Other Work Experience
I have always worked in service-related jobs and moved to Iceland at the age of 17 to work as an au pair for a family in Garðabær. Once I got to know Iceland, there was no turning back. I quickly learned Icelandic and soon started working in various travel-related jobs, including at Icelandair as a flight attendant and at Iceland Travel, where I planned trips for foreign visitors.
Two years ago, I decided to run for the VR Board and became the first person of foreign origin to be elected. Back then, as now, I was passionate about addressing the inequality that unfortunately exists in the Icelandic labor market. This term has been both educational and productive. I have served on the Equality Committee and the Holiday Committee and currently hold a deputy seat on the ASÍ Executive Board.
The main reason I am running again for the VR Board is that I feel my work is not yet complete. Change takes time, but I still want to ensure that the rights of all workers—both foreign and Icelandic—are respected by everyone, everywhere.
Key Focus Areas
If re-elected to the VR Board, I will work hard for all members, with a particular focus on issues affecting young people and families with children and the rights of foreign workers in the labor market. I will also focus on the growing need for mental health support for VR members.
