Experience in Union Activities

I have been a member of the VR Consultative Council since 2015 and have actively participated in its work. I have served as a delegate at ASÍ and LÍV congresses on behalf of the union. In the fall of 2023, I was elected to the board of ASÍ-Young for a two-year term and currently serve on committees within ASÍ, both as a primary and alternate member. I was also a union representative at my workplace for a time and was part of the VR Youth Council when it was founded.

In addition, I have served on the board—both as a board member and as chair—of the Parents’ Association of preschools in Hveragerði, as well as on the Parent Council of Óskaland.

Key Focus Areas

Changes to the VR Contingency Fund – I would like to see a grant system that better serves the members who need it most. In my opinion, the current fund system does not sufficiently support members and falls short when it comes to covering services such as psychological counseling.

Mental health issues – We need to focus more on mental health matters for our members and work on preventive measures to reduce workforce dropout.

Vocational education – We must ensure equal access to education for all. Better support is needed for Icelandic language courses for foreign workers, allowing them to study during regular working hours.

Engaging young people in the movement – Their voices are important and must be heard!

Better work-life balance – Further reduction of the workweek.

Tax-free December and vacation bonuses – We must work toward making these bonuses tax-free!
