Experience in community engagement
I have always been very active in community engagement; amongst other things, I was on the class council at Borgarskóli from 2006–2009 and on the Board of the Parents’ Association of Árbæjarskóli from 2009–2013, first as a member and later as Chairman. For the past eight years, I have been a member of the Board of VR, and for the past two years, I have been on the following VR committees: the Wage Committee, Equal Rights Committee, Executive Committee of the Labour Dispute Fund, Executive Committee of the Sick Pay Fund, Appointing Committee for the selection of Board members for LIVE and an alternate on the Legal Committee. I was an alternate on the Central Board of ASÍ 2018–2020. I have a lot of experience with wage issues due to my interactions with VR wage representatives and other unions in connection with my work for the past 18 years. I believe it is very important to have someone on the Board of VR with a lot of experience in human resources and wage issues, as I believe I have. I am very interested in utilising this experience on the Board of VR, along with my eight years of experience on the Board of VR.
Main focuses
Increased purchasing power, care must be taken to ensure that wage increases do not directly affect the price level. Equality in salary increases, by making sure that no group is left behind, as VR has a diverse group of members. Work must be done equally for all members of VR, regardless of salary, age, gender and nationality. That VR offers holiday homes abroad. Continue the fight in housing matters, facilitate first purchases and make the rental market more accessible. Increased opportunities for continuing education, e.g. that during a certain period, a specific right to a study leave is acquired, with the regular wage. Flexible retirement, by giving older members the flexibility to reduce their employment rate before they retire. VR positioned as a national union, because it provides more equality and is a certain optimisation. Finally, it is important to listen to the wishes of members in order to make a good union better.
